Main shaft seal replacement? Jims 5 speed
Just recently completed my chop and after a few rides had oil dumping out of main shaft seal. This is a used trans but in good working condition.
I have a new seal and going to replace the quad seal as well but have a couple questions.
My trans doesn't have a race pressed on the main shaft but I am running a BDL open belt primary and there is a bushing that slips right over the shaft.
Is this a normal set up for open belts? just want to be sure I've got it set up correctly before i put it back together.

Sorry, the maindrive gear seal is normal. There should be a seal between the mainshaft and the main drive gear. If you are saying there are 2 seals in that location then that is not normal. There should be the quad seal, the main seal( the large seal over the main bearing) and also a seal in the end of the main drive gear that the mainshaft sticks through.

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. The seal that's leaking is the small seal on the main shaft in the end of the drive gear..
When I pulled my sproket off, I saw a seal just resting in front of the drive gear and easily pulled off with my fingers. I thought this was normal as its the way i recieved my trans. That's until i started to read about how to replace it and then realized there was another seal set in the drive gear behind it.
