Default 03 Sportster shift issues

Hello all, I am new here and did an intro in the new member forum. I have a 03 Sportster 1200C with shifting issues. i have looked at alot of videos and threads to figure the issue out. I have adjusted the clutch which did not help. I have determined it is related to the shifting detent plate or pawl adjustment. I got a service manual and cracked open the primary last night to get to the pawl. When I removed the primary cover a hollow pin of sorts about 1/2" - 3/4" fell out on the floor. I have read that the shifter shaft pins come loose and cause the detent clip to break. Just wondering if this is a shift shaft pin.

Trying to post pict but need to figure out how...

Thanks for the help!!

I cannot see your pictures, but I suspect what you have is one of the mounting pins that locate your primary on the engine case. You should find another (one in the front, one in the rear). Look for a related larger size hole this should fit into.
I also suspect you might have a bad 1st and 3rd countershaft gear. There are dogs that connect these two together and sometimes they wear and do not have a good grip with one another.
