Default Clutch Question

On a 103 engine, what stops transmission oil from flowing up the clutch cable. I get that there is an O ring seal that stops the oil from leaking out AROUND the clutch cable, where it enters the cover, but what is there to stop oil from getting actually into the cable between the inner and outer cable parts??

There may be an obvious answer, if so please indulge me..........I might be having a stoopid day!

There is no specific feature that I'm aware off, the design inhibits oil getting out. Why do you ask?!

Well, as I posted a while back my clutch cable is on the way out, it's getting really notchy, so I looked up how to change it and it says drain transmission fluid before opening clutch cover, and I noted the O ring on the cable outer, but wondered what stopped in getting to the inner cable.
Is the area behind the clutch cover running with fluid, as it seems to be above the maximum level, if so why drain the fluid before removing the cover???

Ride your bike up on a 2 x 8. Lean it on the stand and the oil will move to the lower side.

You then can remove the cover without draining the transmission. A small amount of residual oil may drip out. And you may have to remove the exhaust to get to the cover.

Basically gravity and the transmission vent keeps the oil out of the cable.

Even on the jiffy stand, there will only be a small amount of oil in the outer cover, about an egg cupful. It is simple to add a little fresh oil after you complete the rebuild, to restore the oil to the correct level.

Default 07 Softtail Oil Leak at Clutch Cable

I seem to be leaking quite a bit of oil that is running down and dripping off the covering of the clutch cable. What is involved in changing the seal where the clutch cable enters the cover?
