Default 1997 Softail clutch issue

My Softail ate the "spring plate" located halfway through the clutch pack. Can I replace the spring plate with a couple more steel plates and a friction plate?

Either replace the spring plate with a new one, or as AJ suggests buy a new clutch plate pack that does away with it. I used a Barnett kit, bought on Ebay.
