Baker 189-56 bearing question and findings
I am installing one in my 2006 Dyna Wideglide. Found out a few interesting things.
I called 2 dealerships and spoke to the service managers and they told me that on the 06 Dyna's that don't have the transmission alignment dowels they don't recommend using the 60792-06C chrome inner primary because it is drilled out for the dowels and it would just create more potential shifting of the inner primary even though they clearly state in the catalog that it works on the 06 Dyna. Well.. that's partially true. What they don't tell you is that in order for you to do a proper installation you also need to replace the transmission case with the correct doweled 2007 version. I asked about using a Baker 189-56 bearing and they told me they felt it would still chew up the bearing eventually.
Now.. on to my question.
I am putting my original black inner primary on that is not drilled for the 2 alignment dowels and buying the chrome inner primary cover and I am going to install the Baker bearing in it. My question is.... leave both seals on... take the clutch side seal off or take both seals off? I am thinking that taking the clutch side seal off would make most sense because it would get constantly splashed with primary fluid. Just wondering what the best thing to do is.
