Default Sealing Cases

I'm going to look at a 1981 Sportster tomorrow that I saw on Craigslist. The owner said the cases are "sealed" from the outside with some sort of sealant material. Are any of you aware of what that process may be and what are the potential issues, such as removing covers, splitting cases if the need arises? The guy says it doesn't leak oil which is quite a feat for an Ironhead. Any help/guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

Sealed from the outside is a "quick fix" and there may be a lot hidden underneath all the sealant ... I'd be careful

I hear loud alarm bells! Suggest you take someone else along, to give you an independent view of the bike.
