Default Pull MDG seal

So does anyone have any tips or tricks for getting the MDG seal off? I don't seem to be getting anywhere with it.

So as I was taking the bike down to replace the MDG seal, which is still not out, I got to the big sprocket nut. I was worried after hearing all the stories about how hard it is to pull off. I put the tool on the nut and was able to break it off with just my hand. Makes me wonder how well it was put together. I haven't checked for run on torque but I think I will just replace the nut. Everything up to this seal has been pretty smooth .With the right tools it can be done in a day or two. Off to get parts and a puller tomorrow.

Not even a breaker bar on that pulley nut? I had to drill it off, but have heard a good impact wrench is the ticket.

Take a punch and poke a hole in it and pop it off with a awl hook ir a small screw driver. Rubber coated seals come out quite easily.

Just turned it by hand with the tool on. I couldn't believe it. The clutch nut came off easy but I did have to use a breaker bar.

Definitely not right. .it wasn't torqued properly in the first place. Good thing you caught it.

That nut will not come off even with a 4 ft breaker bar and lots of effort once the loctite has cured and it's been put into service for a couple thousand miles. Were the lock plate bolts still tight. . .? Or was there even a lock plate? Something seems wrong here.

No shocker there...the five speed transmissions have a chronic problem with the pulley nut coming loose.

Several things can cause this, improperly torqued nut (obviously), but sometimes the pulley can rock a bit and this can cause the pulley spacer to wear on the end, causing the stack to get loose. It was a much bigger problems on the pre `94 models, because the spacer was longer and narrower.

Always go back together with a new spacer, quad seal, pulley nut and lock bolts.

I'm just going to replace all the hardware from the clutch nut in. There is no play on the main shaft so thankfully the only bearing that is worn is the inner primary case bearing. I should be able to pull that out with a c-clamp and some sockets. I'm going to replace all the seals tonite hopefully and then I'm just waiting on a puller for the race. It also needs to be replaced.

Wasn't positive the seal was the only part causing the leak. Got the seal off, removed the spacer and the o ring underneath was shot. Feel like I found the two causes. Off to get get the o ring and spacer tomorrow. Thepuller for the race should be here by Friday and hopefully I will be riding by Sunday.
