Default Jackshaft bolt unscrewing itself

Saw a thread on this from 5 years ago with no final solution, so asking the same question again hopefully someone has a solution for me.

I replaced my starter clutch and properly placed the springs and bearing, tabs are all in place, pulled the starter out and rechecked it 5 or 6 times but the same thing keeps happening when I engage the starter, the jackshaft bolt inside the primary unscrews itself! It's driving me insane. I'm placing the proper torque too. Anybody had this problem and can provide me with a solution?? 2005 Road King, Thanks

I'm no bike mechanic . But when I change my starter on my chopper {softtail }there was a metal tab that you must pull away from the jackshaft bolt to unscrew it. That tab is there so the bolt stays in place every time you start the bike could this part be missing just my 2ct..

Thanks Swifty for the reply. That's what's driving me nuts, I have the tab in place.. it's almost like the gears within the starter are rotating the wrong way, but I've double and triple checked it and it's all rotating properly.

You have the small and large couplings installed according to the service manual, all splines properly engaged?

Correct jackshaft bolt, thrust washer and lockplate?

The lockplate goes directly under the bolt head, the thrust washer goes between the lockplate and the jackshaft.

Use a new bolt.

Thanks for the reply Dan, yeah I have the tabs correctly placed, I think I'm going to go buy a new bolt and see how that does.
