Default How to adjust the clutch to have more travel?

For some reason the clutch on my bike dosent engage untill what feels to be about 3/4 of the way out. I would like to adjust it so that it catches earlier in the release of the handle. How do I go about this or is it better to have it set up like this or faster shifting/floating?
