Exclamation 1986 fxst help!

So, I'm working on a 1986 fxst softtail and I had to remove the clutch cover, when i removed it I found at the bottom of the case a needle bearing all intact plus the two washers/spacers that go around it sitting at the bottom of the housing. I was wondering if anyone knew where those go?

What are you referring to as a clutch cover, do you mean the cover on the right side of the transmission (where the clutch release lever goes)?

Look for a snap ring in there also, I think what you have found are the thrust washers and the throwout bearing.

Here is an illustration, look at items 5, 9 and 10.

Let us know what you find.

They are small. Dime sized.

The shaft that they go onto comes through the center of the locking nut, look inside. That pushrod assembly (several pieces) goes all the way through to the clutch pressure plate on the other side of the bike. Grab the end with a needlenose and pull it out and you will see where the bearing and washers should be.

The snap ring could have failed, or the end of the pushrod may have broken, but no sweat, those parts are available at the dealer.

one last thing do you know where the release finger goes does it go after the retaining ring or before the trust washers closer to the clutch?
