Default Looking for some guidance

Just picked up a 2011 FLTRX w/ a 103 with 25k on the clock I have noticed that in the lower gears, 1st and 2nd, when slowing down in anticipation of stopping for a red light for example. When I roll off the throttle and pick it back up again because the light changed I get a single clunk from what sounds like down low. No other issues when either down shifting or running up through the gears. Bike pulls strong. Any thoughts on what this could be?

Either the dogs engaging in the tranny or a weak compensator. Cush drive could be worn out too.

On some touring models there is a vibration isolator in the rear drive sprocket. Kinda like a rubber coupler between the sprocket and wheel.

Thanks for the input. Any suggestions on either how to narrow it down or what to check/look for either in the way of other symptoms or things to physically look at?

Sorry so slow getting back on this thread! Cannot speak for the "cush drive", but the compensator is not too hard to check out. Pop the outer primary cover(drain first of course), and remove the compensator bolt per HD Service Manual. Now you can pull apart the compensator parts and inspect for damage, look at the compensator spokes for damage, check out the compensator retaining nut and where in goes inside the compensator for wear and obvious lack of lubrication.

If it looks bad, replace it with the new 2014 SE version:

Thanks Pilot. It only occasionally makes the sound so unless it gets worse or more frequent it might be on the winter to-do list.
