clutch adjustment
I have a new bike. 3000 miles on her and I mostly ride back roads and I use my clutch often. I had it adjusted at 1000 miles service and now at 3000 neutral is getting hard to find. I know its a new cable, is this the reason its stretching again!!!!! Does it settle down after a while???? How often do you guys adjust you clutch?????

The problem is not with the clutch or the adjustment it is in the bearing door. With the helical cut gears you get a condition known as axial thrust where the mainshaft and counter shaft are being forced away from each other. Harley retains their bearings in the trap door with snap rings which are not sufficient in holding the shafts in place therefore the mainshaft is actually moving in and out. As the mainshaft moves so does the clutch making it very hard to keep adjusted and equally as hard to find neutral. We have a bearing door replacement which utilizes a steel plate instead of snap rings to hold the bearings and shafts in place.

We are very close to having a new shift drum and ratchet pawl assembly ready as well for improved shift quality and it will also aid in finding neutral.
