It seems that on the oval cover for my primary case there is usually a thin coating of oil on the outside. There are never any drips on the ground it is just like a film covering the outer cover. Anybody know if its normal? Probably a stupid question. Just wanted to make sure.

 

It is your chain inspection cover, there is a gasket behind it that gets changed when you service the bike.....assuming you check the chain tension and fill your primary through this hole and not your derby as it is easier. Have you serviced the bike and changed the gasket?

my primary is chromed, leaks like yours with stock gasket.
made one out of thicker material , problem gone.

 

I have the same problem with my dyna. Mine seems to be leaking from the screws. I tried everything original owner of a a 98superglide. Learned to live with it. Seems to be a-tiny bit nothing on the ground just a wipe and clean.
