$100 Ride-Palomar Observatory
Hey guys,
I'm sure most of you are, but if you're not familiar with the $100 ride: in a nutshell it is the idea that you can have a great ride/experience for $100 or less, you don't need to ride across the country or around the world, or spend a lot of money to have a good ride.
I submitted one to HOG a few months ago and they must have not gotten any other submissions because they took mine. It's in the latest edition of HOG magazine if you'd like to take a read. If you don't get HOG magazine you can read it on Medium where I have a lot more pictures and it's not as edited for length.
Hope you guys enjoy it and let me know what you think.

Sounds like a nice ride. My buddies and I do the equivalent most Sundays, visiting interesting places in the San Francisco Bay Area. One ride that is particularly nice is a place that is almost the same as your ride. We ride to the Lick Observatory, http://www.ucolick.org/ on Mt Hamilton. From there you have a great view of the entire Silicon Valley and a lot more.

If I ever get that far north again, I'll check it out. Thanks!

Another suggestion after Lake Henshaw and Hudeout is head north on 79 where 76 & 79 meet. Go a few miles toward Warner Springs. Take San Felipe Rd until it meets 78. Then 78 to Julian. Brings you up the Banner Grade to Julian from the desert side. One of my favorite rides. Leave home on Pacific Coast through orange groves, Indian lands, cattle country, lower desert, back up mountains, then home to coast. I do it at least once a month year round.

I live north county so I take 15 north to 76 Pala Rd east to Palomar and Henshaw and Julian.
You can also come north on 5 to Oceanside and take 76 east through Bonsall to Pala, etc.
Those are the best routes.
Coming back from Julian, Hwy 79 to Cuyamaca is a beautiful ride. Then to Hwy 8 and down the pass to San Diego.
This is a great time of year. It is lush green and the wild lilacs are starting to bloom. The orange trees are in blossom and the air is filled with natures perfume
I advise not taking the road up to the top of Mt Palomar on the weekends. It is steep in winding. It becomes a race track for sport bikes on weekends. Spend more time in Julian drinking cider and eating pie.
