Beartooth Pass
Hello,
After Sturgis, we're contemplating the following route:

--------broken link-------------
Curious for those who have ridden Beartooth Pass, am I correct in thinking it is the road from Redlodge and continuing west to Yellowstone, or is the leg south over the 296 highway considered the Beartooth Pass road.
We're probably doing the leg as indicated in the map, just curious.
End Winter - it was minus 20C today...
Thank you
H

Beartooth Pass should be on most riders "bucket list" of roads to ride. It is really that special. I did it in August, 2012 and it was a cloudy, rainy day over the pass (the day before had been sunny). But even in those conditions, I got a real adrenalin rush from the beauty of the place. We stopped at the summit and were all just jumping up and down happy. And I dislike riding in the rain. Beartooth is that special a ride. I hope you enjoy it as much as I and my buddies did in 2012.

Beartooth is Red Lodge to Cooke City. Chief Joseph Highway is Cook City to Cody. If you go west you'll go in the East gate of Yellowstone. The Chief Joseph Highway is a wonderful ride and 5 or 6 hours in Cody will give you time to see the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody. This is one of the best western museums you will find and includes early American and Native American displays as well as on of the best firearms collections in the world. It is said that the largest collection of Wichesters in the world is housed there.
You didn't say when you were going, but be mindful of weather. We have been there on the way to Sturgis (1st of August) and had sleet and cold. Snow is even possible year around. We have also been over the pass and had perfect bluebird skies.
