When you get to Junction headed east, take the first exit into town..turn RIGHT and go "into" town on the main drag. Look for a gas station/store on the right called "Lums" after a mile or so. Best bbq you can buy in my neck of the woods. Brisket, ribs, sandwiches, beans, potato salad, pies, pasta, anything you want they got it. Dont forget a longneck. DON'T turn left under the interstate and go to Coopers. Too much hype about that place. Not near as good. Let me know if you want, I'll give you a personal escort!

About 1 hour west of Houston, right off I-10, you'll find Hinz's in Seeley. Just get off the freeway, look south and on the east side of main str. VERY authentic but save room for dewberry cobbler. Great spot to psych and rest before Houston traffic. Be very careful on I-10 through Houston!!!!!!!!

Take a look at this link and match the locations up with your route. Texas Monthly has been doing these Top 50 Texas BBQ joints pieces annually for years and is a great source. IMO you want sliced brisket, not chopped, for the real deal. Of course not on this list are some great places, too. If you decide on Franklin's in Austin, get there early.

Cattleman's in Fabens. Not BBQ, but excellent steaks in a fun setting.
