I rode from Sturgis through The Rocky's to Durango last year and will be doing it again this year with the wife. I always bring Rain Gear but no chaps or heated clothes. Mornings are a little chilly but we just layer up.

Whatever clothes you have for Sturgis will probably be sufficient for CO

.

I went last year at the end of July and it was very windy and very cold at the summit. Well worth it. I saw this sign on the way up.

So watch out for deer and apparently Bigfoot.

I would take my chaps.
How long to you figure the wait is if I got there when they opened? If I got there at 7:30 in the morning there would probably be a line already?

Maybe a couple vehilces waiting. Wait til 9-10 though and you'll be stuck in a lot of congestion...not just a line at the gate but slow rubber-neckers all the way to the top.
