Montana DOT starting serious work on Beartooth Hwy. Looks it will be ready for its usual opening, Memorial Day weekend....maybe sooner. As for Going to the Sun in GNP, not earlier than June 19 and of course possibly later if the road gets dumped on.

I did the going to the sun road in a car last summer. Awesome views..

Learned one thing though. I wouldn't plan it right after it opens. The snow will still be so high on the sides that you might not be able to see over it.

I did it in September and we had to wait a few days cause it snowed on Logan pass and shut it down. We kept checking the website and luckily it reopened before we left the area. Just crazy beautiful..

 

Crazy beautiful, indeed. Mid September to very early October can be the most amazing time to ride Going to the Sun. Feels like you have all of GNP to yourself, and with a new dusting of snow on the mountains and fall colors rolling in the trees one can't help but feel just damn fortunate to be there.

 

I could have sworn that a guy posted pics of Going to Sun Road about 3 weeks ago and it was clear.

 

It will still be a month before either are open I believe and probably later for Glacier. Both are must see views

 

I rode both in 2011. Every time I see one of those incredible vistas, I just feel so good.

This summer after a couple of days in Sturgis, I'm going to be exploring the high mountain passes in Colorado for a week. If the temperatures are not too hot, we'll also ride southern Utah on the way back to California. Those places also give me the same good feeling.

 

Clear? Maybe he meant the snow was clear up to his ***.

 

I'm going to be there second week of September I hope he is done clearing the snow by then!

 

2nd week in June here.
