Default colorado helmet law?

I need to make sure what the law is for Colorado. We are making a trip there this summer. Reading the HOG Touring Atlas, it seemed to read that passengers had to wear a helmet (which didn't really make sense to me), but when reading the law off of the HD.com site, it seems that only riders/passengers "under" 18 have to wear the helmet.

So can someone tell me which it is? I'm leaning towards we would not need helmets (if we so choose).

will also be traveling: Texas, New Mexico and Kansas. These are all "No Helmet Required" states as well.... correct?

I believe it is only those riders and passengers under 18 in Colorado who need by law to wear helmets. I'll be riding through Colorado this summer and will be wearing a helmet although I am quite a bit past 17.

No helmet required in Texas if you're over 20 years old.

That's right, if you're under 18 you are required to wear a helmet, otherwise it's riders discretion.

thanks, I thought it was weird that a passenger would have to wear a helmet but the rider not. which is what I took it to say from that HOG atlas book

Free app. "Buckfire" has all the 50 states helmet laws. "Legal Heat" has all of the states gun laws.

If you plan to visit the Chapel at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, you'll need helmets to ride onto the AF facility. Otherwise no.
