I am planning a few short weekend trips with the Mrs. for this summer.

One is to leave WNY and take 219 to PA 6.

We would do this Friday afterwork, Question is where to stay Friday night? I have narrowed it down to Wellsboro or Mansfield. We like craft beers and breweries so would love to have one to go to for a few beers when we arrive. Any suggestions as to breweries and nearby (walking distance) hotels/motels/bed and breakfasts in either Wellsboro or Mansfield?

Saturday is a ride down 15 to Gettysburg for the day and evening to do a few tours.

Sunday Ride home.

We went to Wellsboro a few years back and stayed at The Sherwood hotel, nice place and was able to walk in town. I don't remember any craft beer joints. Search for Geezer Glide he lives here and was a great help for our trip. Have fun and make sure you stop by the Grand Canyon of Pa while there.

 

Wellsboro is really nice. Love it up there instead of taking 15 down though take 44 from galeton on down. That ride into jersey shore, pa is gorgeous.

You can actially take 44 all the way into allenwood and get back on 15 south from there. Its a lot better ride.

 

I'm the Geezr Glidr from Wellsboro! Yup, call The Sherwood Motel in Wellsboro for reservations. (Weekends are busy, so you probably should be on the safe side & get a reservation.) Lots of bikes stay there. Park the bike at the end of the day, and walk everywhere. Go to The Wellsboro House for dinner & beers. An easy 5 minute walk.

 

Thanks. Based on a couple posts I looked up the Sherwood, will stay there. I had seen the Wellsboro house a search. Plan is to park and walk for a few beers. I will also look up taking 44 towards Williamsport. Thanks again for all the advice. Any others, let me know.

Also, any advice on Gettysburg, let me know. Was thinking 22? home to stop at the beer barrel pub in clearfield.

 

15 pretty much sucks from the lewisburg area until you get to camp hill very boring ride

 

44 isn't faster than 15, but it's a great ride. Take 287 south out of Wellsboro, 40 miles to 220 south. Then 220 about a mile to the Main St exit to Jersey Shore. Follow 44 south all the way to 15 in Allenwood.

 

I live near Gettysburg and always recommend the Blue and Gray bar and Grill. It is right on the square in town has really good cheap food and of course the suds. Also the York plant is within easy driving distance for a tour if they are running them.

 

HDavidA --- Do you mean Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield? If so, it's on 322 in Clearfield. It's only a couple miles south of route 80. 22 & 322 are concurrent for awhile, but then they split off & 22 runs to Pittsburgh. 322 is what you want to hit Denny's & then head home.

 

thanks, going to stay at the sherwood and hit up the wellsboro house. then look at these routes to gettysburg. definitely want to try denny's, heard good things. unless some has another recommendation
