Deer are the least of your worries. The SoCal traffic is your main concern. Especially at night on a motorcycle. I take Hwy 58 from Bakersfield to 395. Then south to 15 to Riverside. Google Maps shows it as only 10 minutes longer

Never seen a deer on that stretch, you should be fine.

My daughter's front end of her car did find a deer in San Clemente which smashed in her front end good. Of all places, close to the beach.

Just do it and pay attention. That stretch of road isnt the only road in the country that may have deer on it. It is something that riders of rural roads deal with all the time.

Exactly what I would recommend. From Riverside go north on 395 to 58, then cross over to 99 and head on up to Modesto. Miss ALL of that LA traffic. I started doing that back in the 70's.

138 is your friend. Take 15 to Cajon Pass. Get off on 138 and cruise into Palmdale. Take it north to the 58 and cruise over the Tehachipis to Bakersfield and the 99.

It's much better than staying on the 58 to the 395. Or vice versa.

Won't argue with that, anything beats going through LA and I have not driven down there in over 20 years so don't know how much 138 has been improved.

them deer are some blood thirsty ******...a friend of my brother was riding to work one morning three weeks ago on his EG Ultra and a deer jumped in front of him at 45mph...totaled the bike and he is still in intensive care, this happened at 6am
my brother and his OL were jist ridin around one Sunday a few years ago and bambi decided to attack them...totaled the bike but they were OK. Last year a turkey decided to fly in front of me 1/2 mile from my house, broke the windshield clean off. I thought it killed the turkey, so when I stopped I walked back to see the bird, as I reached down to touch it the dam thing made a shreik and got up and ran like hell... the freeking thing dam near gave me two heart attacks in about a minute....Ever see the show,"When Animals Attack."?
I live in east Tn. near the Va. line...if you think the wildlife sounds bad around here...they are nothing compared to the idiot people and their cars, I cant understand what makes these **** for brains people think they can drive an automobile and not watch where they are going......WTF!!!!

Edit: if you are from this area and drive a car or truck this does not automatically include you....sorry libs, but if you have crossed the double yellow line and ran a biker off the road then you know who you are, I remember your vehicle and your face and I got something fer ya next time I see you.
