Default Lodging in Pocahontas Co., WV

Looking for clean, affordable places to stay in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. Something maybe nicer than the Inn at Snowshoe but not necessarily as nice as Greenbriar. Planning to ride scenic railway in Cass and spend a day or so riding around the area. Looking for other destinations, things to do, places to see and good food (especially the good food).

A few years ago we stayed at the The BrazenHead Inn Mingo Village Valley Head, WV. Clean place. No cell service in that area and no tv's in the room. They do have a bar and service a good breakfast.

Not a lot of choices in Pocahontas Co. Might look at Lewisburg area. Not that far south of Cass and 219 is a good ride. Cell service is about non-existent in Pocahontas due to the Nat'l Radio Telescope Observatory in Green Bank, which is also an interesting tour.

I thought that one might come back.

Seriously, they closed it and somebody turned it into a B&B. Bottom floor was the lobby and a nice restaurant, the second floor was renovated into rooms for guests, and the third floor was still the old cells for the inmates at the time. That was at least 10 years ago. Worth checking out though.

We go up there at least once every summer. We've always stayed at Seneca at Snowshoe. Allegheny Springs is supposed to be nice as well but I prefer Seneca for the secured underground parking when we take the scoot. My $0.02.
