Place to stay @ Tail of the Dragon
Anyone that is looking for a place to stay when going down to the Tail of the Dragon / Deals Gap, I highly recommend the Dragon Pitt Inn. Its located on US 129, 9 miles from the start of the Tail of the Dragon, on the TN side. I can't imagine any place better to stay down in this area. The owners, Dennis and Jane, are excellent owners and hosts.
