Thinking of taking 212 all the way or 212 to Redfield, then down to Pierre and then take 14 to Wall and I-90.

Pierre to Sturgis on 34 is 178 miles. I know I'm good for 200 on a tank and still have about a gallon left out of six.

I live in SoDak. I find that the fastest way across the state is the best way, there just isn't that much to see. I actually like I90 on the bike because when I do stop (Chamberlain, Kodoka, Wall, or Wasta, I encounter bikers from other parts of the country. Your pretty much out there by yourself north of the interstate, not that there's anything wrong with that. If you need dealer assistance it's either Pierre or Rapid.

we took 212 to 45 to 14 to pierre to see an old buddy, then 14 to wall and 90 to sturgis, then to deadwood. it does get a bit lonely in spots, but with some planning it would be fine. the road itself was nice, smoother than i thought it would be. as others have mentioned, be mindful of fuel range.

there is a town between pierre and wall, we stopped for gas, had to pay inside, no credit card at the pump, and there was a pay phone across from the pumps! classic!

Default If anyone is intersted

I rode 212 from the Twin Cities to Belle Fourche… in 102 degrees. After Redfield SD the road is great, just resurfaced a few years ago. Beautiful ride with no traffic. Plenty of gas along the route, the only station that did not have high octane, had 87 with a no-ethonal option. Glad I rode 212 the whole way, very enjoyable, my type of road, scenic with no traffic. Thanks for all your help!

I have only done 212 from North of Sturgis To Billings Montana as it saves over 100 miles over 1-90.

To me anytime there is a two lane alternative to the Interstate, I will take it. I have never been disappointed. Stop in Broadus, Mont. at the C store and get their neat frig magnet of 212. It has wings and a 212 logo with the local name of the road. "Warrior Road" on it. $5 and it's yours. Or put it on your tool box.

I just completed a 5K+ round trip to Milwaukee from Northwest Washington. I always avoid the interstates when possible. However, my ride back through Iowa and South Dakota (until I hit the Badlands) was so boring I wished I had taken the fastest route instead of the back roads. However, its worth it because once you get to the Northwestern part of South Dakota (Black Hills area) it is worth every boring minute it took to get there

I have taken two lanes through South Dakota and have taken the interstate multiple times. I just take the interstate because the road is nice and you have no stop signs. Its worth it to get to the nicer riding quicker and its usually so darn warm
