Default Million Dollar Highway

I just had a PM inquiring about construction on the MDH. The highway is under construction just south of Ouray and limited to one lane. The highway is CLOSED 8 to 12 and 1 to 5 during the week, so there is only a 1 hour window at noon to get through. On weekends the road is open and has a stop light that allows south bound traffic to go for a few minutes and then north bound. When we went through last Sunday there was no more wait than a normal traffic light in town.

My wife and I were on a car trip through Durango 10/7 and 10/8 and
while we did not go up the highway, there were large info display signs
on 550 stating that there were no more closures.

Just FYI

I wish I could be out riding that area this fall. Thanks for the heads up.

I was just in Durango day before yesterday, was sporadic rain, snow on the mountains along with the closures I aborted and continued on. Too late this year but have had some great riding. Will be posting link to the blog.

Don't even try 550 between Ouray and Silverton during the week. It's even messy on the weekends.

However, the weather has been phenomenal. I got in well over 300 miles yesterday riding over 4 passes (up to near 12,000 feet) and the temps were around 55-60 even at those elevations. The snow is pretty much non-existent even on the 14,000 peaks.
