Devils Highway (Morenci to Alpine)
#11
Heading North on 191 out of Morenci:
after you have cleared the tunnel, made the initial climb through the twisties (couple 3 miles or so..), you'll end up at the top of the grade after a tight sweeper to the right. Be easy here as the mine does have a haul trucks crossing the highway time to time. They will "ALWAYS" have flaggers in place if they are active at that spot.
immediately after that point to the left, you will see a HUGE "lay down" yard that is barricaded off. Never know what kind of mining equipment they have parked there in various stages of repair. That spot is known as B Hill.
directly across the highway from B Hill is remains of the grave yard for what used to be the community of Stargo AZ.

Finally got my leave approved and I'm gonna be heading from El Paso TX to Cave Creek AZ taking the long way around. Plan is to go from EP to Morenci the first day and camp there. Second day is the Devils Highway to Alpine then across to Payson, Camp Verde and down the 17 to Cave Creek. Will grab some pictures if I can.

Devil's highway is one of my favorite rides. I had to pass it up the first year I was heading out to the west coast because I was in monsoon season. NASTY weather. I ended up pit stopped in Globe, AZ at a tiny gas station during an hour downpour. Finally made the ride for the first time in 2014.

Honestly there is not much in Cave Creek. From Camp Verde you should head to Prescott and then down to Wickenburg, from there you can head to Cave Creek.
