Day 4 - Tuesday May 19
Yum, yum!
Great breakfast joint.
We woke to another chilly beautiful day, and thankfully no wind. We strolled over to Allen Street and it was dead as a door nail, pardon the pun (Tombstone). Seven-thirty and no stores were open, no one was stirring. We took a few photos and then made our way to Brenda's Chuckwagon for a wonderful hearty breakfast. The waitress was a bit coarse, but she was on the ball. Locals love this place as well. After filling up, we walked around a bit to shake it down. Then went back to the motel to pack while we waited for the stores to open. I was on a mission to get a t-shirt from Tombstone HD. That done, we prepared to leave. I was disappointed that I didn't get a photo of the road runner we saw in the parking lot. He was just too fast We had some nice brief chats with folks at the motel and then we departed the beautiful town with wonderful mountain views all around. I led us through the border patrol check point and on towards Tucson. It was beginning to get warm. We made our turn off the interstate to take the back road to Saguaro National Park West. I didn't realize how narrow, twisty, and hilly this road would be! I'm still not sure I had us on the right road, but it was white knuckle fun! Saguaros everywhere! I pulled off for some pics and then we were on to the park. We spent some time at the super nice visitor center. It was a refreshing break from the Arizona heat. From there we headed to Eloy and got a great meal at La Paloma. Love having the two salsas with different degrees of heat. Enchiladas were really tasty! With us full and bikes full of fuel, it was on to Buckeye, Arizona where we again fueled up, watching a couple of jack rabbits playing. We knew we had a long ride to Blythe, California from here and didn't want to get low on fuel. We entered California late in the day, the palm trees replacing the saguaros. At dusk we arrived at our hotel and settled in doing a little laundry while we cooled down. The Red Cactus Grill next door had stopped the evening food prep, so we grabbed a bite at Denny's across the street, passing vagrants along the way. Back in the motel we crashed........................ 363 miles.
