Default Day 5 - Wednesday, May 20th

We woke up here in Blythe, California early, but still didn't get away as early as I would have liked. Breakfast at the hotel and then packed up and headed out, getting fuel before getting on the road. Really pricey fuel. Over $4 a gallon. We hopped on I 10 and headed to the southern entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. This is a gem. At least to us. A great surfaced road with some nice sweeping curves through out. The Joshua trees don't appear until you get in the northern part of the park. Nothing but scenery and nowhere to get fuel or other services basically. We enjoyed our ride before leaving the park and visiting the park station in Twentynine Palms. From there we traveled further west through Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley before descending into the valley where Palm Springs is located. We went to the Harley shop there and got our t-shirts and photo. Our farthest point west on this trip. We then retraced our path out of the valley and grabbed a bite at Wild Willie's or something like that. Pressing on back east on 62. Long desolate 62. For a hundred miles or more....nothing, but a fantastic road. The relaxing type with good surface and just a few hills and curves. The pavement is so bad everywhere in Mississippi where we are from, that a road like this is exhilarating. We reached Parker and I didn't listen to the Garmin lady. Got turned around a few times, but finally were on our way to beautiful Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The sun was in our face and we were getting a bit tired. It was pretty along the river, but the road required my attention with all of the curves and traffic. Stopped for fuel briefly. It was getting dark and we needed to make it to Kingman. We got to I40 with a spectacular sunset to enjoy as we traveled along. We arrived in Kingman and traveled Route 66 to our Best Western. We walked across the street to Oysters mexican and seafood restaurant, then back to the room for good showers and good sleep. Day 5 was 425 miles. Pics coming later. We are having a storm.

Super scenery.

Great road! Sweeping curves in the distance and on throughout the park.

A Joshua tree stands proudly in the desert landscape.
