If you want an alternate suggestion from Valparaiso, IN through to central/northern IL I know the area pretty well. Most of the routes I suggest would probably be best loaded into a GPS since they require a few turns, but there are a handful of scenic roads you could catch to pass through the area. If you aren't in a huge hurry they sure beat most of the rest of the scenery in IL and IN. But if you are wanting to make decent time I'd just shoot up to 80, fight traffic for 60-75 minutes until you are well west of the city, and ride on from there.

 

The Lincoln Highway !. Only rode from York, PA all the way out to Pittsburgh...Awesome road for sure.
