Back in the 80's when I was running long haul, I drove quite a few sections of 30. I've run 30 thru parts of Pa, Iowa, Nebraska, and ran the stretch from just out of Green River Wy to Pocatello ID a lot. A lot of 30 is taken over by I-80 &84, you'd have to hunt for the old road in places. Most interesting stretch is just west of The Dalles, Or; very twisty. The stretch from Portland west to Astoria is all in tact.
Be an interesting ride, mostly straight road except in PA. Lots of small towns etc..

I live in western, Pa and love route 30. Should be a fun ride. Thanks for the info.
Most of W IN and E IL would be fairly miserable on Rt. 30. I'd jump on 80 somewhere around Valporaiso IN until I was about halfway across IL. You don't want to ride 30 through that stretch IMO. It'd be 4+ hours of stop lights instead of 2 hours of highway.
