Default Great Lakes Trip

Current plan in a week or two, 7 days. Anything I should make time for (in addition to tunnel of trees, SSM, Niagra)?

Take a break and check out the soo locks if any freighters are coming through. The mighty Mac. is impressive. Look for the pull off to take pictures before crossing if you are heading south.

31 North along the West side, through South Haven, Saugatuck, etc....or 35 North out of Grand Rapids towards Baldwin, up to Traverse City....m22 along the west side out of Manistee is one of the Best....Sleeping Bear Dunes is good to see.....pretty much everything from Grand Haven north is good.....have a good time.....watch for Deer.

If you go to the UP make sure and see Pictured Rocks and take the boat tour. The road from Munising to Grand Marias is H58 and should not be missed. Go up to Copper Harbor on US 41 and take 26 back...beautiful area. The Porcupine Mtns. are a nice area and do not miss Lake of the Clouds. The previous post says 35 north of Grand Rapids..it is actually 37 and is a nice ride. Silver Lake sand dunes on Lake Michigan are cool to see. Lots of beautiful areas here in Michigan.

There are many "additions" ( of course time may be a factor ) you could make, but Pictured Rocks and H-58 is definitely well worth the time added to your ride. You will not be disappointed.

Just saw the map.....rather then going across, I would curl north on S. Huron Road to 23, then along the lake to Au Sable...........then wind along River Road, 65, Bumfield and such to Mio.....then cut across to the Lake Michigan and make sure you run right along the lake when you get there.....sleeping Bear Dunes...if you have time stay on 22 all the way up to Northport, then down to Traverse City.....East side of Traverse City in Elk Rapids is Pearls New Orleans Restaurant.....great food.

When you do the Tunnel of the Trees, on the north end, Harbor Shore is Legs Inn......great Polish food........

Shooting across the UP on 75 would be kind of boring......if time permits I would run 2 up to Brevort....watch for Gustufsons Meats on your left, secondary road back to 123, then Curley Lewis Hwy back to the East and run the lake to the North end of 75....but then again, I've been know to take forever to get anywhere.

Have a great trip.

Unless you're dead set on the southern coast of Erie, the last time I was through there, the northern coast in Canada was much better. Cleaner and much more scenic. Went through the Windsor tunnels and the wife asked where the water was coming from, I told her from the lake above. Scared the crap out of her. Couldn't get her out of there quickly enough.

You won't go through the Detroit/Windsor on a motorcycle ... Nope, no way. They are not allowed.
