Default Why We Ride: Sturgis 2016

One of our Sturgis group is from Australia, and this year he arrived with a lovely lady from California, who documented their entire trip by pictures...first from a rental SUV from California to the Chip, and then from the back seat of a rental Road King at Sturgis.

She unfortunately had to fly back to California early, so the pictures end at Crazy Horse. Over 1600 pics. If you've always wanted to go to Sturgis, but never made it, start the slide show, sit back and relax, and dream. The actual Sturgis area pics start at #529.

OMG......we rented the same cabin (house) in 2013 the week before Sturgis..( Whitetail Drive first driveway on the right )..great location......right off the highway across the camp ground just south of Lead......my wife and i ended up "picking" the bunk bed bedroom, fortunaltely for us we placed the mattresses on the floor....wasn't about to climg on it......LOL.....
Lately we have been renting cabins up on the mountain Terry Peak Ski Area....

Truly enjoyed the pictures, most of the sites we have been...

Yep, that's the place. The best part was the road goes to Four Corners, and by early evening there was virtually no loud traffic. Right across the road was a campground with an outside bar/restaurant and great live music.

Terry Peak is now tarred all the way to the top....when you come up over the last crest, on the way to the Convenience Store, you better be ready, or you'll go right over the edge on the other side.

Must have been great year to be there. I see almost no real traffic in any of those pictures!

I don't believe that there was any time, up until Friday night of the last weekend, that you could drive down LaZalle and not easily find a parking spot. The roads in the early morning were virtually free of opposing traffic, and even the Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road were easy to drive.

The biggest crowds we encountered were not at Sturgis, but at Black Hills Harley Davidson at Rapid City. They continue to expand, and are there own little "mini-Sturgis."

Here's my pictures from my two week trip. I've got them organized by locations, so you can pick and choose what you want to see. From Sturgis, I spent a week in Montana, rode the Highway to the Sun, and also Beartooth Pass leaving Yellowstone.
