Maryland (Near Baltimore) to Ashland, KY \Huntington WV
Traveling from the Baltimore area to Ashland, KY\Huntington WV area. I need route and lodging recommendations.
As far as the route, I like the Interstates supplemented by some state or US Routes.
As far as lodging, clean, safe, and motorcycle friendly. No need for spa services such as facials and massages. LOL
Thanks much
Emil

Emil, I have to agree that route 50 in WV is a great ride. I've gone down there a few times from upstate PA just to ride route 50. Lots of hills & twisties & hairpin turns, but if you do interstates, and wanna make some time, take 70 through Frederick & Hagerstown, and get over to 68 west at Cumberland, and go to 79 south at Morgantown. 68 is a GREAT ride for an interstate --- also hills & turns, and not much traffic at all --- not like traffic on 70 or 270 before you get to Frederick --- nothin' like that at all. You'll love 68 & 79. If you have time on the way back, it's definitely worth the trip to get off 79 at Clarksburg WV, and ride route 50 east. 50 is just an OK ride for the 1st 20 miles (or so) east of Clarksburg, but after that it really gets fun. I usually ride it to 220, and then back up to Cumberland to get home, so I can't give you any info about 50, east of 220.
On the way to Ashland, there's always 81 to 64 too, but 81 is sometimes almost as bad as 95. 81 & 95 are about the only 2 major north/south routes in the east. I'd get over to 68 if it were me.
I edited because I forgot about lodging! I've stayed at Hampton, right off 79 in Clarksburg. It's pretty much Smalltown USA, and nobody's ever bothered my bike. There's also one in Fairmont, north of Clarksburg on 79. Never stayed there, but a few of us are going back to WV in a couple weeks, and we might stay in Fairmont because there are more restaurants to which we can walk, than there are near Clarksburg Hampton. There's a convenience store right next to Hampton in Clarksburg that says pizza & subs, and there's a Sheetz near there too. I opted for Sheetz, and just got a couple sandwiches to eat in the room.
