Ride down the Oregon Coast
Last week a buddy (he rides a Yamaha, but hey, every one has flaws) and I left Tacoma, WA and rode the 101 down into Crescent City, CA. It was both of our longest rides. 1081 miles over 4 days. I'm sure we could have done it much quicker but we visited a friend of mine and his uncle along the way. We've been wanting to do the ride for over two years but couldn't ever get our schedules straight. Our longest day was Saturday where we rode from Hammond, OR to Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park. Although we spent 180 miles that day in the rain, it was well worth it; however, I do have some lessons learned.
1. The Oregon Coast is amazing!
2. The K&N Aircharger Air Intake sucks in the rain even with the rain sock! Bike would putt along just fine but would sputter when I tried to accelerate.
3. Bought a Shoei Neotec helmet before I left. My first full face helmet and it's worth it's weight in gold (I think Shoei already knows this, haha) especially in the rain.
4. If I ever do a long ride again, I will invest in real rain gear. My military-issue gortex pants didn't do very well.
