Michigan to Maine trip in the planning.

I've done this trip a few times from the U.P. to VT/Maine to visit a buddy.
Have always took 17 through Ontario. Usually stay in North Bay, which is about the half way point. Nothing real exciting along this route, its actually pretty desolate. But always figured it was better than the traffic and super slab in the States. I always cross in Ogsdenburg, NY and head up from there.
The bigger cities in Ontario get pretty crazy with traffic too. If you ride through NY, watch your speed. That's my one note every trip.
Good Luck and ride safe.

Hi again Luke-a-tick.
I will lay out the route we took twice to Bangor, Maine from Ontario. You can cross at Gananoque, Cornwall or Kingston and head south to Plattsburgh, New York as I previously mentioned. Then take the ferry across Lake Champlain (about a 20 min ride). After exiting the ferry take I89 south to Burlington. Continue on I89 south to Montpelier. After Montpelier you will take Hwy 2 to Hwy 302. Then take Hwy 302 thru Barre and carry on to just before Bath. There you will see Hwy 112. This is the hwy that goes thru to White Mountains. (Not sure on the time you have but you will not regret taking this hwy thru the mountains!!) Also, remember when it says 30 mph into the curves be sure you follow it. Some of the road does a 180min spots. But, the scenery is amazing! After you get thru the mountains you will come to a place called Conway. Once there you will have options. Due to time restraints we carried on thru to I95 and then straight north to Bangor. Another option is to take Hwy 113 to Hwy 302 and then pick up Hwy 35 north to #2. Then Hwy 2 onto Bangor.
I know this lengthy but hope is helps give you some options.
Safe riding and enjoy your trip whichever route you decide on!
Cheers, Terry (Scorpio)

Another option to Scorpio's route is to take 37 to 11 across the top of NY to Rt 2 through Lake Champlain in VT. This is a beautiful ride literally down the center of the lake via islands and bridges. Check it out on the map.
There are some great routes in VT. You can get on 15 not long after crossing the Islands and head over to 100C/100 then take 14 to 58 to 5A through Willoughby Gap and go south to Route 2. Take route 2 across all of NH or Scorpio's route dependent on time. Route 2 will give you access to Pinkham Notch and a drop into N Conway if you so choose. Be interesting to see your final route plan.

Like I said earlier, you won,t go wrong staying on 2 all the way to Bangor--[we stay at the Fireside next to casino]-then head to Bar Harbor[do Cadilac Mt] the southern stuff [Bentley,s] [Old Orchard] and surrounding area is at least 4-5 hrs from Bar Harbor via rt1
You have many choices of stops along your travels,it,s a tough choice to use time to your advantages I guess---Good luck and safe travels
