Bigg's HD has a rental fleet also. Located in San Marcos. About 30 miles North of Sandy Eggo.

From San Diego, Salton City is a pleasant ride. (Not much there) North Beach reminds me of an old B & W episode of Twilight Zone. San Diego to Salton Sea/City is 2 hours each way...if you hustle. Expect the temp range in Feb to be 60F in San Diego, riding 30 miles East, up the mountains (6000') it may get into high 40's. Continue East to the desert floor and it'll be in the low 70's.
I can't really tell what roads you have besides I-8, so if you can give us more detail we can maybe help you fine tune that. I would recommend staying off interstate as much as possible. 71on72 gave you a great route that is one commonly ridden here.

If you find yourself close to Temecula (50 miles North of SD) you might want to check out the 100's of motorcycles that call Doffo Winery, home.

If you decide to "cruise the beach" then the Strand in Oceanside is nice. The harbor isn't too shabby either. Expect temps to be "mid 60's" here. It could be wet too as you're coming in the dead of Winter. Temps could be 55F at the beach, or 80F.

Hotels~ In San Diego, there's Shelter Island, Pacific Beach, Del Mar (pricey.) Hotel Del Coronado.

Restaurants to visit~
D Z Aikins
Rainbow Oaks (in Rainbow)
Mr. A's
Anthony's Fish Grotto
The Prado in Balboa Park
Any restaurant in "Old Town."

Places to visit~
San Diego Safari Park
Balboa Park
Cabrillo National Monument
Coronado Island
San Diego Zoo
Imperial Beach
Mission Beach
Ocean Beach
Pacific Beach
Seaport Village (SD Harley ARO there.)
Giant Dipper at Belmont Park
Railroad Museum in Campo
Glider Port at Torrey Pines

Riding North, you can ride through towns/cities like:
La Jolla
Torrey Pines
Del Mar
Solana Beach
Cardiff-by-the-Sea (visit the Kook!)
Encinitas
Leucadia
Carlsbad and finally
Oceanside.

There are probably 100 hotels to choose from, all along the beach.
There are 4 HD dealerships in SanDiego County.
They are~
Sweet water HD
El Cajon HD
San Diego HD
Bigg's HD
They are spread out at least 15-20 miles apart...
Hope this helps!

There's no reason to go to Mexico as we have no shortage of world class Mexican restaurants.

OP~ What are your riding goals? Beach ride? Mountain ride? High speed sweepers? (Just kidding!) Farmland cruising? City traffic? (LOL) Twisty's?

Nice route! Looks like you went up to Julian then down to Ocotillo then around the horn back. Did you hit Mt. Laguna?

All the way. Loved Julian. Talk about tight twisty downhills. Sleepy town, couldn't stay long.
