Million Dollar Highway

Me and My friend who served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot rode to Angel Fire and the Million Dollar Highway. As a peacetime vet myself I believe it really helped my friend going to Angel Fire. When you ride up the hill into the memorial it feels like Peace would feel like if you could touch it. It is in my mind a sacred place.

I've been touring Colorado since 1978. And in all that time 550 southbound from Ouray to Red Mountain Pass still hits a 10 on my pucker meter. (flatlander) Mid May has to have snow melt on the road. The thought of refreeze around some of those near death turns blows up the meter.
Candyass that I am, I'd have lunch in Ouray on a sunny day before going up that road. Early AM, no freakin' way.
BTW, in '78 I ran from the snow in very late May.
