Lot of zig-zagging but I-70 to Georgetown then over Guanella Pass down to 285 to Alma then over Hosier Pass to Breckenridge then I-70 to Copper Mtn and 91 to Leadville then 24 down to 82 and Independence Pass through Aspen and down to Carbondale and 133 over McLure Pass then north on 50 to 141 to 491 and Four Corners and Indian Country or Canyon Lands/Moab and I-70.
There are tons of alternative but that will get you over a lot of passes and offer short spur side trips or let you make up time by jumping on or off the interstate.

Just tagging for info since my planned 2016 trip got sidelined due to a nerve injury, wife's job promotion, and son not being able to meet us there. 2017 planning just beginning.

CO 92 between Hotchkiss and US 50 should be on everyone's bucket list. Absolutely breathtaking ride.

There's so much good riding out there. We spent almost two weeks riding out there this summer and are probably going back in 17 to do it again.

There are several threads on this forum with a lot of good info I used when I planned the trip this summer.

You can't lose on any road in Colorado. There are tons of mountains passes, canyons and beautiful scenery just about everywhere except east of Denver and the front range. Just pick and route and go for it. Prepare for cold and rain.

If you in the area, I70west bound - last exit before Eisenhower Tunnel is Loveland Pass- excellent climb and nice road that will take you by 2 ski resorts ending in Silverthorne

If you should find yourself down around Cortez, Co. , I would definitely recommend Taking Utah 95 ( starts just south of Blanding,ut.) up to Hanksville,- hwy 24W to Torrey, - the hwy 12 sw down to where Bryce canyon is. Take your camera! Utah 95 and 12 are 2 of my all time favorite rides. Mulky Dugway - hwy 261 is off 95 too.

Another good ride that I always like is taking 285 and 50 from Denver to Gunnison then down to Lake City on 149 and then over to Pagosa Springs on 160.

Went from Cheyenne to Vegas in 1 day similar to shanebo route. All through Rockies nat forest. Can't go wrong on any of these suggestions. Beautiful state to ride in. Can't wait to do it again!

I love the 'San Juan Triangle'... Ouray, Silverton & Telluride. Can't go wrong in that area. Municipal hot spring in Ouray makes for a comforting soak at the end of a day of exploring. Glenwood Hot Springs is awesome too.
