Hi Bomtek,

I will add some additional stuff this week. During the early Aug timeframe, Acadia is brutal so that would be of my personal list (others will argue -- I hate crowded areas) and the Seacoast itself will be challenging but is doable if you ride at certain times of the day (and not on the weekend!!). Anyway, send us info or your ride style, lodging preferences, dining etc if you want help with that.

Here are a few links to previous conversations of the area. You will see many of the same folks on these. Give a read (if you haven't all ready) and fire away with the questions. Almost time for me to start planning trips, Gaspe, Watkins and Virginia will be among them. Rocker, you going for Gaspe this year??/

We,re planning late July/early August[ family issue/Dad] may once again deter us from travel--we usually get 2 nice trips in the summer, but last year was only one[due to Dad living with us/Dementia] ,getting respite is difficult. We are doing Mt Washington ride with friends then to Acadia-possibly Fort Kent then OOB and Wells during bike week---planning only1st Sat Sun of Laconia then headed to Bar Harbor Monday--we stay about an hr south ,nice B&B in Lincolnville[Whales Tale Pub B&B]

Wish ya the best on that. Not sure how much we can pull off this year as I have to go back into the workforce but hoping to get Gaspe in the bag.

When in NH, from The North Conway end ride the Kancamagus, rt 112, to Lincoln then take 3 north to 302. Take 302 east and stop at the Mt Washington hotel, now an Omni. Take a walk around inside, then take a seat on the back porch, and order a snack, or lunch, or drink. If it is a clear day it will be worth it. Then continue down 302 and ride through Crawford Notch. If you are lucky you will see the train on the mountain side! Then I take Bear Notch road back to the Kancamagus hwy. From there either take a right to go to Lincoln, or a left to go to North Conway. (I vote for taking a left back to rt 16, take rt 16 south and stop at the Yankee Smokehouse, at the corner of 16 & 25, for wings and ribs!.) I find this a great little loop, with scenery that is great.
Have fun, and ride safe

I do at least 1 trip a year up to upstate NY, VT, NH and so on, from northeast NJ. Lots of good stuff mentioned so far. I usually ride up to Killington, VT for the 1st night. Great area in the mountains. Big ski area in the winter, but still has lots of restaurants and is a good way point to get to the Adirondacks / Finger Lakes heading west, or play in the mountains of VT and NH. Rt 100 connects right by Killington and is a beautiful ride heading north. Don't forget to get maple syrup. If you can get to east Mass and north of there along the coast, you get great lobster. Nice riding in the Berkshire mountains from western MA to CT as well. Someone mentioned Rt 7 in VT. Nice ride, but slow pace. Having said that, there are multiple places that have the best damn soft serve ice cream I've ever had up that way.

Default Virginia to NE

Lots of good information below. One thing I will add is - Route 7 is probably the most popular (and heavily traveled) roads into SW Vermont, but the traffic through Troy, NY sucks. Another option is to take Route 2 through Petersburg, NY into the NW corner of Mass, and then head north to get into Vermont.

Rt 2 is a beautiful ride, somewhere near the top there is (or used to be) a bar/restaurant that sits on the side of the mountain at a switchback in the road. The view from the bar is phenomenal, and you can see NY, Mass, VT all from there.

Once you get over the top of the mountain, the road brings you into Williamstown, and then N Adams Mass, both pretty little towns.
