We've got 2 Harley's and 2 Goldwing's leaving Atlanta on 28 January, 2017 for Belize to attend the Meet in the Middle IV Rally held 2-4 February. Looking for input from any riders who've ridden through Mexico. I've read everything I can find on the computer on different forums but want some input from any riders who've been there. Not to sound like a coward or anything... But isn't that a very dangerous ride?

 

I would also love to know how this ride turned out, or get input from others who have ridden through Mexico and/or Central America. I'd like to know about the safety factor, road conditions, difficulty finding lodging, language issues, costs, etc. I have been to tourist spots in Mexico (Cabo area and cruise ports mostly). Never into the interior. We rented a car in Cabo and had no trouble driving up to La Paz, but that's been a few years.

 

USA to Panama 2018. bob left Minnesota on 2007 Honda ST1300 with a high of 31 degrees.I left Colorado on 2014 Harley Ultra Limited with a high of 52 degrees on march 12 2018. decided to meet in Topeka KS, we drove south on Highway 35. 2nd day it was 21 degrees the Harley would not crank got jump from guy in 90s chevy pick up. Crossed border at Larado TX. Took about 1 1/2 hours to clear customs with importing motorcycles, Crossed from Tapachula Mexico. into Guatemala used local guys at border to speed up paperwork, cost $20 saved a lot of time. Crossed into El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragus, Costa Rica, and Panama. drove as far south as they have roads to Yaviza Panama. Took about 15 days and 5,000 miles. Drove Eastern side for Return trip drove thru Belize. drove in all 7 Central American countries and Mexico. everyone loved the Harley, thumbs up & waves all the time, everywhere people treated us great.
