WY Hwy 191 and 89

I am thoroughly confused by your description of travel. I know one person says yes and one says no to your question. I have been looking at a map for some time trying to figure out where exactly you are referring to. 191 runs N and S for the most part, and where it intersects 89 in WY IS inside Yellowstone. If you are trying to get between Cody and Jackson, or West Yellowstone and Jackson then I recommend paying the money and cutting through Yellowstone. It isn't anything short of amazing. It has been my experience that if you get to the entrance gates by 9-10am you can scoot on through without being too hung up in traffic. Avoid the hot spots and don't stop for food/fuel inside the park. You can pull over and have a snack and keep on cruising. Good luck there are lots of great ride reports on this area if you search for them.

I literally spent 24 hours in the park a couple years ago and saw as much as I possibly could as quick as I could. Was it enough time ? Obviously not, but was it better than nothing? Of course.

I agree, all these areas are incredible and worth the price of admission. Hell, just stop in at Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone for 10 minutes to appreciate it, even. See if you're near Old Faithful at a convenient time. Take 10 minutes off the bike to walk Grand Prismatic. Not to mention all the bison, bighorns, elk, and who knows what else you're bound do see.

For a drive through, start in Cody and end up in Jackson. A lot of it right by the lake. A short diversion to Old Faithful to get a T-shirt is a 2 hr add on. I did that last year, minus Old Faithful; which I have seen a lot.

I have been to Yellowstone a dozen times for 3 to 5 days each time. And I have barely scratched the surface. I can honestly say it is my favourite place I have been. First time I went was on a 400 Yamaha back in the late 70's.

Last year when I went thru Yellowstone, the entry fee for Yellowstone included entry into Teton NP. If you come up from Jackson on 89/191 turn left at Moose jct into the Teton Park. This road takes you up a nice scenic road close to the Tetons and by Jenny Lake among other interesting sights.
Yellowstone Park is Huge, about 80 from south to north and its a circle with a cut thru midway, Tons of interesting sights all around. Crowded in the summer season.

Thanks for all the replies. We did the Cody trip west through Yellowstone 4 years ago. We had heavy heavy traffic in late August. Last year we did a trip that we have done a few times that takes us through Rocky2's country which is following Hwy 3 west.
The goal this year is to spend more time in big country and try to avoid heavy crowds. So we want to pass from Cody Wy going south and than go west and travel up through Stanley Idaho. Take lolo pass and than back north into Canada.

No, it isn't. US191 intersects US89 at Hoback Junction - well South of the parks.
Another ride recommendation:
At Hoback Junction, turn South on US89 (through Hoback Canyon - very scenic) and stay on it at least until you come to WY 239 (which quickly turns into ID 34). Take 34 to Soda Springs and have a meal at the Ender's Hotel. Then take US30 through Fish Creek Pass to I-15 and head back North.
Option #2 would be to stay on US89 all the way to Montpelier, ID and pick up US30 there.
Both are fantastic scenery, especially Star Valley in Wyoming.
EDIT: After re-reading your post, it is confusing. You say you are coming from Cody, but want to stay south of the parks???? I took it that you were coming from the south on US191. Which is it?

The ride from Montpelier, ID to Jackson is one of my favorites. Riding it again this July; Salt Lake City to Yellowstone and back.
OP, if you take US191 to Hoback Junction, I would highly recommend the ride north to Jackson, then west to Victor, ID over the Teton pass. Great ride, stunning views. Make it as early in the day as you can due to afternoon traffic/evening wildlife.
