Not worth the the money they want if there's a hotel somewhere close. I've used them in a pinch but I've always had my mobile camp gear with us. Think the cabins are geared more to the city dweller types who want the illusion of camping out but with a roof & shower.

I am going to give it a try this summer, if the cabins do not work out I will just go back to hotels. If someone else has a good review to post before I do this summer please inform me.

We also did the KOA cabins in Moab. They're park model mobile homes done up to KOA specs. Nice but not a bargain. The more primitive cabins may be available at other KOAs

Stayed in many of them - a few in the Hills. Deadwood, Spearfish and Custer were OK, Palmer Gulch (Mt Rushmore) is an outstanding facility and we're planning a trip there again with our kids and grandkids in July.

I find they are just fine, especially if rain is in the offing.
One poster is right, they can be nearly the cost of a motel in some areas.but they do beat a tent. There is a power outlet, one light and you can stand up, flop your gear on an unused bunk, move around and there is usually a small porch with a swing chair. Most have a laundromat, store and all have showers. I don't mind them at all.

a few things you do NOT find in these cabins
people walking above you
slamming of the door across the hall or next door
toilet next door flushing in the middle of the night
bed thumps from next door
too close to the elevator

just saying.....

I guess they can be almost as much as a motel, but the areas where I stayed in them, they were half the cost of a motel. I guess it depends on the area.

We stayed in the cabins in Moab. The little AC's are insufficient during the heat of the summer. They were when we were there. It was HOT.

Those are valid points - I always found it funny that those noises bothered people. I basically live in hotels a lot of the time, and I never even hear that stuff lost of the time.

The power outlet is huge, though.

I have stayed in a few KOA cabins and they have all been pretty decent.

We stayed at the ones in Custer SD for Sturgis one year and they had everything you could want to include a pancake breakfast every morning if I remember correctly.

Another plus with a KOA cabin is you are not three flights up from your ride. First floor level at a hotel is not always available.

You can have a camp fire if you want. To me a nice fire and a few beers after a day of riding is icing on the cake.

If it's just 1 or 2 of you they're allright.
My wife and I shared one with another couple and all I heard all night was her farting like a little horse and him snoring all night.
Needless to say, I won't share a room with slobs anymore.
