Got my last trip cancelled due to a legal issue to travel to the US
Hi,
Last November we planned a road trip to Ohio. It was my first cross country road trip and we had a big plan. But, I couldn't make it across the border. They stopped me from entering the US because they found that I had the record of DUI. I felt so bad. I had return back. I insisted my friends not to forfeit the trip.
We may have a trip this year too to some other place and I don't want to miss that. I searched online what documents I need to be able to enter the US. I read that I can get a US entry waiver which gives me pardon for 2-3 years to travel there. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How long will this application take? I read that it would be between 6 to 18 months. Give your opinion.

Been there done that. The first waiver will only be good 1 year. They take about 4-5 months to receive it after applying at the US border $600 US. First you'll need to get printed and apply for your criminal record. It and a latest tax return need to be included in your application. Have your prints done at a police station, prevents delays on receiving your criminal record from RCMP. They'll take 3 weeks. Once you have the US Entry Waiver I-192, it's just a bit more time getting over the border but never had a problem.

I think its a joke that you can't cross the border because of a DWI. I tried to get into Canada, and they denied me because I had one 20 years ago. So are they saying you are a risk? If so why can you buy your way in with the waiver. Basically they are saying you are a bad person, but if you pay us some money you turn into a good person and are no longer a risk.

A single DUI conviction is not grounds to deny entry into the U.S. However, multiple DUI convictions or a DUI conviction in combination with other misdemeanor offenses can make a person inadmissible and require a waiver prior to entering the United States.
A crime involving moral turpitude (CIMT) may be grounds to deny entry to the U.S. For more information
