Default Cooperstown NY

Anyone out there familiar with the Cooperstown area who would know of a route from Northern NJ to Cooperstown NY area while avoiding the NY Thruway. That is, once we leave the NJ Garden State Parkway, is there a scenic route taking back roads to Cooperstown? Thanks. I would like to consider a ride to that area next summer.

Thanks for the info. I assume there is fuel and a few diners along the way?

When in Cooperstown make sure you check out Fly Creek Cider Mill, great ride and nice little town, they have the best lunch in town for a fare price. Home made pie for desert, pot roast sandwhich, chips and a drink for about $8.00.Theylots of other things to eat to. Plus, go to the Ostwego Hotel, not sure on spelling, its the grand old hotel in town on the lake front.

Stroll through the lobby and out the back door onto the grand porch. Grab some rest in one of the many rockingchairs facing the lake and knock down you fav. drink or two. If you wish any thing else shoot me an email at cms1528@yahoo.com. I get up there about once or twice a year.

I like taking RT-30, off of 17 near Hancock over to Grand Gorge. Take 28 to Oneonta and eat at Bob's Barbeque (the chicken is the best). Then ride north to Cooperstown.

'That's Brooks BBQ. 28 is a nice ride thru the catskills. If you are looking to avoid the thruway, do as J. boogie says except you can cut some distance and have a nice scenic ride if you go up rt 3 to 28a to 28 from Kerhonkson. That will take you by the Ashokan Reservoir. There are a few diners and very few gas stops. Best bet to get gas in Kerhonkson or prior though as there isn't much in the catskills.
