We will be leaving friday afternoon for a weekend trip through WV. Picking up people in zansville, so i guess our trip should go through marrietta. Any must do routes and good places to stay that people have done before? Thanks in advance.

Two years ago at this time I went from Zainesville to Parkerburg caught 47 to 33 to Elkins. Stayed there overnight then went to Seneca Rocks and 220 through the mountains to Staunton. Stayed there overnight and did the Skyline Parkway north and then back home.
It was the best fall ride ever. I did it at just the right time, the leaves were perfect, weather was perfect WV and VA are my favorite places to ride this time of year.
I doesn't matter what route you take. Take a camera and have fun.
From Zanesville take Ohio 60 south to McConnelsville. Turn left (east) on Ohio 78 and ride that road through Woodsfield to Ohio 536 south ( this is known as Ohio's Tail of the Dragon ). It's really crooked and technical. This road will take you to Hannibal where you can go south on Ohio 7 for a short distance and cross the river into New Martinsville. Once across the river take WV routes 2 & 20 south to the south side of town and then stay left on WV 20. 20 and 7 run together for a ways but 20 will turn south after a mile or so. Stay on 20 and it will bring you into Parkersburg. These roads are quite twisty so be careful. Once in P'burg, US Rt. 50 is good or you could hop on I-79 and go south to Werston where you can jump on US Rt. 33 and ride it all the way back to Columbus.
On the south side of Zanesville, you can pick up SR555. It runs all the way down to the river. It is VERY curvy and scenic! I think they just let a drunk guy loose on a bulldozer!

From Zanesville, go south and pick up Rt 33. Nice ride to WVA. Once in WVA, just a short ride down 77 to Charleston. Several nice places to eat, drink and spend a night if you can.

23 south, 35 east, 93 south to Oakhill, 233 out of Oakhill to 141 to 378 to 7 on the river. 7 west changes to 52, cross the river, hoila, WV! 7E to the bridge and cross the river, again, hoila!, WV!
Unbelievably great ride, mountains, twistys, some highway, some unreal backroads, Forests, bottoms...try it, you'll like it!
I like to run this rt.from Circleville, going to Charlies HD in Huntington, WV.
