Default Advice on Route from St. Ignace MI to Minneapolis

On my way to Sturgis this year, I have two days scheduled from St. Ignace MI (by the Mackinac Bridge) to Minneapolis. I've never been in the UP and am looking for advice on a route, and where to stay, between those two locations.

2 is a nice route through Escanaba and then catch 8 outside Norway to Minneapolis. Nice ride and will make those 2 days breeze by... Many nice stops along the way. 8 has lots of little towns with nice hometown stops for refreshments and eats.

The other way is to go north from St Ignace around the UP and then come back down to catch 8 across WI to the Twin Cities. That route can take a little longer than two days depending on what roads you take.

Thanks riskmanager and glide2meetu. glide2meetu, I'm going to go the way you mentioned. I was thinking of staying on 2 to Ashland or Duluth if it was a lot more interesting, but it is farther, and it sounds like I can't go wrong. Now I'm planning on stopping overnight in Rhinelander.

If you stay on 2 to Ashland you've seen the best part and then its pretty cutting down to the cities as well. Either way is nice, lots of water and nice roads. That part of WI from 8 north is very pretty riding.

Whats going on in MSP? If you want the best burger go get a juicy lucy on Cedar and 35th. Ask for a glass of water with ice.... and I see they have a web site now! www.mattsbar.com
