Have you already started planning your next? it is a sickness you know...
If you guys rode as a group with 19 bikes, that is a phenomenal time. Very quick pace when you are limited to the slowest rider, smaller fuel tank and smallest bladder.

Good luck Zeus! I think that ride could be one of the most challenging of the rides IBA certifies. I've done SS 1000, SS 2000, BB 1500 (36 hours), and a 48-10. Unlike those rides, a BB Gold leaves little room for contingencies. I can see how it could take one or two tries to get it done. Ride safe!

zeuss33, I've been thinking about your idea of a BBG to Kearney and back. One unnecessary challenge of that route would be the sun. You would be riding into the rising sun in the morning and the setting sun in the evening. It may not seem like much, but it will definitely make a difference in the fatigue.
The link I tried before didn't work so I'll try a different way. Here's a suggested alternative that would take you west in the morning, then back east at night.
The gist of it is to go south to Nephi, then head west through Delta and out across Hwy 50 to Fernley, NV. From there head north to Burns, OR, then east to Pocatello, ID and finally back south to Salt Lake City. You'll be off the freeway for a good portion of your ride, but still on roads where you can make excellent time. Just a thought.

may be going for the "gold" june 11. here's the plan:
palm desert, ca to tuscon,az to las cruces, nm (I10 and I8 East) then (I25 North) to albuquerque,nm then (I40 West) to flagstaff,az to needles, ca then (95 South) to vidal junction (near parker) then (62 West) to (177 South) to Desert Center then (I10West) to the chiriaco summit.
thinking of leaving 2p-3p to avoid full frontal sun. planning 9 stops with legs ranging from 150 to 207 miles. 6 gallon tank but still a wee bit nervous about the 2 legs over 200 miles.
current weather looks like high 90's in las cruces, chance of rain albuquerque to flagstaff and 108 in needles. i've been thru 40's and sleet in flagstaff and 122 in needles before.
thoughts appreciated.

Only you know your bike's fuel range.
I've learned speed will kill my fuel range and on the BBG you will pushing the speed harder.
Also headwinds can cost you 20% of your fuel range.
During my BBG run I literally rolled in on fumes once.
I had to switch to reserve on my tanks, did some quick math, and then slowed my speed a bit. When I filled I put more than the capacity of the tank in.
I always carry 4, 1 liter MSR bottles of fuel on all runs. You might give that some thought.
Good luck with the run!!!

Iron Butt SS1000
New to the forum so this is kind of a late entry. In June 2011, I was one of 12 riders participating in the 4th Annual Special Kids Ability Ride, a fundraiser for Special Kids. Special Kids is a Christian, nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic rehabilitation and professional nursing services to children with special needs. Special Kids has served over 2,600 children from 18 different counties in middle Tennessee.
We did a Saddle Sore 1000 route from Tennessee through Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and ending in Charleston, SC. We rode 1017 miles in 19 hours. The last leg from Columbia to Charleston was ridden about 10 pm in literally the worst thunder and lightning pouring down storm I've ever ridden in. Any sane group of riders would/should have aborted. Unwise and unsafe perhaps but we completed the mission. Looking back, an Iron Butt accomplishment becomes a bucket list type of event.
