Congrats.
Your backyard just got a lot smaller.
But, your playground just got a whole lot bigger.

Like someone said earlier, you have a whole different perspective on those "long 200 mile rides" others make.

Yup, couldn't agree more.

The more I take longer rides, the more longer rides I want to take. Just got back Friday evening from a six day, 2,000 mile ride down through central Nevada, west over the Sierra Nevada mountains (Ebbets Pass going and Carson Pass coming back). I rode ten hours in the rain one day, and absolutely enjoyed the hell out of it. Full rain gear, of course.

As I was about an hour north of Winnemucca, Nevada, the storm started to get weaker, and the sun broke through a hole in the clouds. Could there be a better example of "why we ride"?

I was disappointed I wasn't able to do the 50cc to going there so I tried going back and able to do it in 47 hours and so many minutes. I did this with lots of preparation and started with 1000 miles in less than 24 hours and gradually to 50cc. Its impossible to do without alots of preparation and practice run.

I should get 4 certification in this run. ss1000, ss200, bb1500 and 50cc
My buddies and I (the same group that did the 48/10 last year) are planning a 50cc for next year. Any tips? As part of the 48/10 we all did SS1000, SS2000, and BB1500, so I'm mostly looking for tips specific to the 50cc.

Would you go the same time of year again, or would you wait until it gets a little warmer?

We'll be going San Diego to Florida and then taking a leisurely ride back to Utah. We hope to spend some time on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Tail of the Dragon, and in the Ozarks. Other suggestions for can't miss stuff on the way back would also be great.

You have to do the Pig Trail (SR23) and Mt. Nebo south of Russellville, Arkansas. If you do Mt. Nebo make sure you get a pin/patch to prove it. Not for the faint of heart, believe me....a real sphincter tightener.

why pay money for a pin? My close friends and family know that I did it and I know that I did it. I don't have to prove anything to anyone.

Why even bother doing it and taking the time collecting all the receipts and check-in signatures if you don't plan to use them or want anyone to know you did it?

Kinda seems like a waste of time.

I wouldn't have taken the time to collect all the stuff if I wasn't going to use it.

Now if somebody says they don't believe I did it because I'm so old, I can PROVE I did it (and for a measly $50 - it's well worth it). I'm proud of my accomplishment and like the bragging rights and the expressions on people faces when they hear what I did. Of course some think I was an idiot. LOL

The money is for a license plate holder/pin/patch/decal and a couple certificates. Cheap compared to what you get.

BTW, my friends and family will believe "anything" I tell them. wink wink. It's the skeptics I plan for.

It's $35-$50 to get certified.

If that makes an impact on your budget, you probably shouldn't spend the $100 on fuel it takes to make the run.

You pay for a quarter mile pass and you get your time slips.
You pay to run a marathon and you get your medal.

All the same.

Everyone in the bar has the fastest car and the prettiest girlfriend.
(until its time to race the car and meet the girlfriend)

Proof takes the bullshit out of it.
