Completed my first Iron Butt last weekend. It was the final IBA ride for 2016. Ride was to benefit a local boy and raise money to fight Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Rode from Gruene, TX to El Paso and back, a little over 1200 miles round trip. Ride out wasn't too bad, but man was it cold coming back.
How many participated in the ride? Do you have any idea how successful the fundraiser was? That's a great thing to do. Congratulations!
I did a 1000 mile saddle sore from Rochester, MN to Denver back in 2007.
That's only 880 miles, did you take the long way around or Rochester to Denver back to Rochester??
I did it from Denver (actually Henderson) to Chicago, but still had to do a couple loops around Rockford to accumulate the 1000 miles.

Congrats on yours.
Yeah, to get over 1000 (ended up being 1035), I rode the following:
Rochester, MN
to Sioux Falls, SD
to Omaha, NE
to Cheyenne, WY
to Denver, CO (west side)
G'day mates.
I have a cool IBA story if anyone is interested in hear (reading) about it. It is a bit long so I do not want to type it up if there is no interest.

If not on the IBA thread then where?
Type it up!
Thus far I have completed 3 Saddle Sore 1,000's.
The first one was by far the most brutal, it lasted 19 hours and crossed 6 state lines (Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa). Temperatures ranged from 35 to 60 degrees. I learned a lot on that ride about covering long distances as quickly as possible. In comparison my third SS1000 took 15.5 hours and went off without a hitch.
I have plans for more IBA certified rides for 2017, just something about endurance riding that I found I really like.
