Default Big Road Trip 2012

Planning another 5000 mile road trip with a railroad theme again
September 2012
Last year was 4200 miles
Here's last years link......http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/f...d/Trip%202011/

some of the highlights

Savannah, Old fort,NC,Big Stone gap, Huntington WV, welsh,WV,
New river Gorge, Clifton Forge,Mance, Pa,Horeshoe Curve, Altoona, Pa
Harrisburg, Perryville, MD, Martinsburg,MD, Cumberland,MD, Grafton,WV
Narrow, VA...then south to Hamlet, NC.

Since the late 70's a bunch of us do the Skyline drive and stay in Waynesboro,Va
We still do it to this day
I'm just taking the long scenic route
Plan on camping for the 2 weeks.....

Good ol electraglide is doing well

Did the Skyline last year and plan on doing it again this year with entire Blue Ridge tacked on. You have any good suggestions where to stay in Waynesboro?

I used to live in Waynesboro. There are 2 best western hotels at highway 340 & 64 one is only a few years old and a nice property. There are several eating places from Steak to Cracker Barrel and fast food there too. Further (3mi) on 64 towards Staunton there is a Hampton, my preference, at Mint Springs exit. Enjoy

Is the remains of the Kinzua Bridge off US Rt. 6 in Pennsylvania on your route. I was there 2 years ago and they were building an observation platform at the end of the remaining bridge. Near Mt. Jewett, PA.
